are you talking air filter or fuel filter? either way we checked both of them once we stopped for the day and both were normal. also, with hindsight, we can pinpoint the break to before the sandstorm so i don't think it was the culprit.
Alberto thinks it may have been a combination of degraded engine (BMW's official story), less than ideal gas, and maybe the wind asking a lot of the engine on that particular day.
anyone with the patience to read through the entire ADV thread (it's a bit daunting) will see there are lots of good theories, but i honestly think we will never know what really happened.
