Getting the bike signed over - Chile

Hi all,

Currently in Curico, Chile. Have seen a good deal on a Tornado 250 second hand, but I am quite unsure about the notoria process. I have RUT, etc. I am working here for six months but afterwards wish to travel outside of Chile. I was wondering if anyone can advise...? Is it easy enough to get done? My Spanish is limited.

Any help, tips or advice would be fantastic!

Many thanks,
Saludos,
rtw

Either you both go to the notary and agree the sale there and obtain the papers to allow you to visit the Registro Civil, [url=http://www.registrocivil.cl/]Servicio de Registro Civil e Identificaci

Hey, I just sold my bike in Santiago two days ago.
I just went to the notary with the buyer. He paid the fees, we both left with copies.

A very knowledgeable friend told be that if I had my RUT card (not just the temporary 3month paper with the number) Then we could have gone to the Registro.

You or the owner will also need the two current downloaded forms that list the bikes ownership (free of bank ownership) and the one that shows there are no fines on the bike. They should have a bunch of other paper too, Padrone, insurance, homoglacion, or roadworthiness stuff,.

Going to the Registro is cheaper if you have what you need to do it there.
Make sure the owner has all the papers up to date, I believe this is "papels al dia." This time of year, the circulation permit is probably a week or two from expiration.

Read through the other threads on this to cover your bases. Whatever you do, avoid buying used from a dealer with out of date papers,...
I'll try to brew up a thread on this in a few days.

Bueno Suerte!

Thanks for that!! I didn't know you could just head straight to the registro - are you sure of this? Well if I go ahead with sale I will report back with my findings here

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
