I think I met him in Guatemala in August. Funny guy with lots of stories if I have the right person. He was waiting for suspension and looking for other english speakers to hang out with. I tried to meet up with him a second time but never got ahold of him. This guy was amazing, he spent a few years in south america and spoke no spanish. That didn't hold him back though, he had some amazing stories!

Hi,
We just returned from a camping trip in Colorado and met Ian at a gas station in Poncha Springs, Colorado on May 25, 2009. My husband is from Manchester England and noticed the license plate and flag on the bike. Our daughter wanted to go over and say hi and ask about his bike. We had a great talk with him and took some pictures but unfortunatly we had to go. We will keep on looking him up to see where he is and how he is doing! It was great to meet him!

Ian Coates

Hi everyone..... I've known Ian and his wife, Judith, for some time now and just wanted to give a short update on Ian. He has been staying in Canmore on a farm, 3 miles east of Edmonton, with a friend of his. Ian's motorcycle is on currently on a ship heading across the Bering Sea. Ian has now received his Visa to be able to continue on with his journey. He will be flying out of Vancouver, Canada on April 14th to Seoul, Korea where he will have to wait there for about 20 hours to make connections to Vladivostock, Russia. Ian will arrive in Vladivostock, Russia on April 16th and then will make his way to the Port to find his bike and once he finds his bike then will take on the task of putting it back together after having to break it down to fit it in the small crate that he had to ship it in. Ian jokes that maybe by the time he finally gets his bike put back together that he might even be speaking Russian by then...... Even though this is Ian's last leg of his Around the World Journey, it might still be some time before he reaches Hebden Bridge, England, which is home to Ian and his family. Ian plans on visiting as many of the countries as he can once he gets on the road in Russia before making his way back home to his wife, Judith, and family. Anyone who would like to read more about Ian and his travels can Google his name, Ian Coates, or you can contact Ian through his email address which is: coatesian ATTTTTT hotmail DOTTTTTY com Ian loves hearing from people and loves sharing his adventures from all of his travels and he is one of the most fascinating people I've ever had the privilege of knowing. We love you, Ian....... Be Safe........ Dee & Brent

Smile He's on the Road Again

I've just heard from Ian, after several weeks of staying with the Iron Tigers whilst tussling with Russian Customs, he has finally left Vladivostock and is currently near Khabarovsk. He has encountered snow and muddy, potholed roads- though as I've told him, those roads get much worse as he heads further north.
