in need of sprockets in Cuzco or area?
Currently in Cuzco, Peru and in serious need of both front and rear sprockets. If anyone has any info on shops that can order in the parts it would be greatly appreciated. Also wondering if anyone has had sprockets machined at local shops. If not i was planning on shortening my stretched out chain and heading to La Paz, Bolivia in search of the parts.
Gracias,
Nathan

Go see Alex
Yeah, Jeff's probably up north in Chachapoyas working on his other place. Besides, he's in touch with the RTW people, but not the local parts suppliers...
Go see Alex at PeruMotoTours up on Calle Saphi 578. From the plaza go NW one and 3/4 long blocks and he is on the right. You can't miss all the motos on the sidewalk! He has 20 bikes himself and knows everyone in town who would have a DR and might have parts they would "part" with.
Tell him Toby sent you.
la Paz is not going to be that great for parts, but 2 days further in Santa Cruz it is motorcycle heaven! and CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!!!

Yes, Alex is the man. Good English spoken, good attitude, good crew. Make sure you've got the right shop--the one just uphill (also lots of bikes on the sidewalk) isn't the same quality.
I've got a contact in Sucre if you need it. PM me.

Toby: Thanks for the hook up, went to go see Alex and i got alot of good advice from him and almost tracked down some sprockets but they were the wrong sizes.
Im in puno, Peru now and was planning on hitting La Paz today but the guy im traveling with (Wrongway) had all his documents stolen by some clever little f.....! Passport, license, insurance, registration everything needed really. I know this is a different topic but any advice from the vets would be greatly appriciated.

What to do...
I didn't have the right documents when I left Peru (via the jungle into Brazil) so I snuck back into Peru via the "road" along the backside of Lake Titicaca. There was NO border control (2007), only a customs station on the Bolivia side that was closed. Mind you, I'm not recommending this..
He should first go to the Police. They won't do anything but write a report, but he will need documentation of the theft in order to get a "salva-conducto" paper that will suffice him and moto until he does get papers restored (but probably not to cross the border). He would be best to roll back to Cuzco where they have proper connections with embassies, and wait it out.
Sorry....
