Info plse - Brazil to Boliva (Corumba to Santa Cruz)

Fellow Bikers,

Good day to you. Has anyone ridden Corumba to S.Cruz recently? I thought I'd glimpsed a thread on this last year, but now can't find it . . . only one dating back to 2005.

Any info would be great. Conditions, fuel stations, any border crossing complications, amusing encounters etc.

If I return that way, then it'll be end-July/early Aug, so hopefully dry season for any clay stretches.

Thank you!

Bob

Sorry no recent info, last time I did that stretch was in 2011, then there were only 48 kms of dirt, just west of san jose de chiquitos the rest a very good tarred or concrete road. By now it should have been finished I would say! San Jose de C is a good stopover, hotel Villa Chiquitana has a campground, the french owner is very friendly, an ex south america- by -Vespa -traveller.

Corumba+

Cheers Marker!

I also found the below link re a vintage car rally that did the stretch Feb 2013. It doesn't give too much detail except that the road was great and they did the 660km stretch between Corumba and Santa Cruz in just 8 hours, most of it during the night . . . with one fuel station in the middle.

So you're probably right in suggesting the stretch is now all asphalt.

If I decide to return that way, I'll let you all know.

I'll also be able to give concrete info re bike storage in Brazil, because I entered last Sept from Peru, left the bike here from Dec-May while I returned to the UK.

Anon!

Bob

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
