Hi Boz,
If you hit someone you'll be in deep s**t, no matter what. Therefore, don't hit someone, and don't let someone hit you. After travelling through some 120 countries during the past eight years, I bought insurance only when I absolutely had to, e.g. green card in Europe. Never bothered in South America, Africa, Asia, and Australia. In Central America I was forced to buy in Costa Rica. In Mexico, for example, insurance is not mandatory. I do have health insurance, because I'm a relatively old boy (68), and if I should fall off the bike awkwardly, I may have to ship my battered body home, and this can get expensive. With the bike: I figure if I get in collision with someone, it will be their fault, and they will have to pay for me. For me it's all part of the adventure.
