Hi Gerald,
there is nothing like that on this continent as far as I know, cant you use an insurance from home?
Why dont you "insure yourself"? A great part here is relativly poor, so you might pay a damage easily directly and drive on.
The only strict exception I know is Chile, where things are little more like in Belgium.
But overall, as a biker you are loved by the people and nobody asks you here for an insurance.
Here in Bolivia we have to have a SOAT. It is a 10 - 15 USD (motorbike for one year) insurance, which pays ALLWAYS for the other. It is not a question of guilt.
I once crashed into a pedestrian, who crossed the street on red light. It wasnt my fault - this was 100% clear. But I had no SOAT, "only" an international insurance. I paid his hospital exams. I paid the bike repair.
You get my point?
Your 3rd party ins. would not cover either.
How much was all his exam here? And he was full of bruises after having caught the Africa Twin. 200 Bs about 25 USD.
I am sure - you could pay that as well.
Frank

We have got 3rd party insurance for South America through www.alessie.com. It does not cover Colombia. Alessie are an agent. The policy is written through an American insurance company based in Pensylvannia. Have not had the need to use it, so don't really know if it is worth the paper it is written on.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
