insurance in south america

hello!
I am starting in 5 weeks for a trip from venezuela down the westcoast to tierra del fuego.
is there any third party insurance for the bike necessary?
is there one insurance for all the countries, or must I look for one in each.

thank you
Joe

seguro contra terceros

In Argentina,Chile and Brasil you need an third party insurance.
I use in Argentina ATM.As a foreign bike rider you can insure your bike in this company.
Try to contact Bob Morley, his user id is smellybiker. He offers insurances for south america. He is in Peru.
Noch ne gute Reise!

Insurance at borders

We will be travelling through Chile, Peru, Bolivia & Argentina later this year & were of the understanding that you can arrange insurance at border crossings if necessary.
Is this not the case?
Cheers,
Mark

Question MERCOSUR moto insurance

Hi People, does anyone know of a site where you can organise bike insurance for all MERCOSUR countries before arriving, I should hate to get my first traffic fine for riding out of the airport customs shed at B.A. international uninsured. Ride safe.

Entiendo bien?

Hi there
Can I please confirm my understanding.
If I turn up at the border without third party insurance where it is compulsory I will still be able to clear the border or they will have insurance available there?
Obviously it is awkward arranging from the States (or New Zealand) being able to purchase it the next business day in the country would be less hassle but I doubt it is this easy. Is there any sort of estimate of the cost for a basic 3rd party cover?
Cheers

Simulando un poco

Let me tell you one thing
Not all gendarms speak english(less can read it) allmost none can understand it.
You can bring some insurance card from home with your name and bike data on it.Many travellers succesfully passed the border with such act.Of corse you need to say its for all southamerica!"cubre todos los paises sudamericanos, muy buen seguro, pero muy caro"
You can hire later in town an insurance(if you find one).
In Argentina the company is ATM: i pay 35 pesos a month for third party(12 us,9 euro)
and you can add for extra cost all mercosur countrys.
You pay in cash at the moment or with your CC(plastic),must be international.
VISA,Master,American etc.
