Leaving motorcycle in Peru?
Hey guys,
I've lost my motorcycle papers of my Colombian motorcycle (akt) while I'm in Peru. Well, the motorcycle has been nothing but a pain in the ass lately, so I'm just thinking of leaving it behind and flying back to Colombia. What are the consequences of leaving the bike behind? Is it possible to do this legally? Can I leave the country without consequences?
Edit: I assume you can't cross the border with a copy of your papers?

Hi "Tijldc" (what's this? where from?),
sorry, my "english" is too bad to understand for native english speakers:
But I left Peru (from Lima three an a half years ago) by leaving a paraguayan vehicle on my name (but without valid papers, because the pre-owner lost that ;-) behind . No problem for me.
But the next owner got problems by entering Chile with this vehicle, because my pre-owner lost the papers (not really paper - a small plastic card - but he (the new one) finally managed this without any problems more.
Greetings from Europe
Ferdi

I believe you won't have any issues leaving.
The moment the TVIP runs out, the bike will be subject to confiscation with little to no chance of getting it back.
I wonder what it would take to get a new Colombian title/registration card.

I live and breathe this stuff here in Peru. Yes, you can exit no problems. Just don't come back to Peru on the same passport or you MAY have issues attached to that passport.
You don't have to just leave it, you could get something for it. PM me.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
