Looking for advice on buying a moto in Brazil

Greetings. I am looking for websites or connections on where to buy a good, cheap bike for a 2 week trip to Brazil at the end of December. When I leave I am probably just going to park the moto at a friends house and not use it again for quite a long time so I don't want to spend too much. I am traveling very lightly so I don't need a big bike...even a little 150cc or 250cc would get me by.

I previously spent a year riding all over S. America so I know most of the things to watch out for with cops, roads, etc. and I know that this isn't the easiest way to travel...but who wants to fly or take the bus when you can RIDE?

Any pointers on where to find the bike would be much appreciated.

Onwards!

Moto.com.br

I'd suggest checking Motos Novas e Usadas no MOTO.com.br ... but be careful... there are a lot of scams and stolen goods on classified ads in Brazil... You should ask a Brazilian friend to check the bike before doing any business or deposits...

If you dont buy from a dealer you might get a cheap bike but end up spending the same amount on tickets that he didnt pay over the last few years, and if you dont pay them, you will not be able to register the bike in your name.
There is a webpage where you can check out if he has any unpaid tickets but you need so other information besides the reg. of the bike that only the seller can give you, so you cant do it from just a picture of the bike with the reg.
You want a brazilian friend with you WHO KNOWS ABOUT THIS STUFF, otherwise you can be sure that you will pay dubble.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
