Thanks Sam,
Safe travels to you too. No worries mate, nothing personal.
Perhaps it is because I have worked for the IRC (International Red Cross) and in that capacity visited foreigners in Mexican prisons.
Some were in prison because they thought they had insurance coverage until they had a serious accident. After the accident and an investigation by their insurance company, the insurance company determined they were operating a foreign registered vehicle without proper title, proper permits, or not the owner, and therefore the insurance company was not responsible for paying liabilities, bail or a defense lawyer.
Some were in jail for years waiting to go before a judge. One, I had visited, committed suicide, others tried to escape and others had their parents/friends pay bribes.
You did get one thing right, I am a bit aggressive when anyone suggests that purchasing vehicle insurance for coverage in a foreign country is "simple." With your experience touring foreign countries and after reading this post, surely you now agree with me.
I do appreciate your suggestion for others to research insurance companies and buy insurance. The only thing I can add is - be aware that the vehicle, motorcycle you insure is legal in country and that the title you have is a legal title, etc. because the insurance companies will investigate and any irregularities will be noticed and used as an excuse not to pay liabilities etc.
xfiltrate. Eat, Drink and Buy Insurance from a reputable company and understand what is covered and not covered.
