Hi there,
I am actually doing this... travelling around S.A. for 6 months on a KLR. I bought my KLR from Ride Chile ( Ride-Chile.com | Home) in Santiago. They have been friendly and helpful with me - among other things they took me through the paper work and Tómas is my postal address for my RUT. I first travelled south with a paper (a Poder) that allowed me to exit Chile with "his" bike. Later, when I returned to Santiago, I got my original Padron (which is the official paper giving me the ownership of the bike).
Ride Chile sell their used rental bikes. Their are usually a couple of years old (my KLR is from 2013) but maintenance seems to be taken well care of. They offered me a buy-back deal at 60% as well. I will try to privately, though ;-)
And that leads me to the next thing... I am returning to Santiago mid August. The plan was to give my bike a good service check and then sell it. I have not made any official sales add, but I thought perhaps you would be interested in buying it? Mick (also Ride Chile) has (in another context) offered me to store my bike at their place if I needed, so I think it would not be a problem. My thought was that you could then keep in touch with Ride Chile to find/buy another bike near February.
Anyway... just a thought :-)

Ps.: My bike has had no serious problems... Loose bolts, a defect battery, and currently the instrumentation light does not work - which I have postponed to fix until Santiago. Asking price would be 5000 USD. You can see photos of my bike on my blog.
