Take routa 81
Hi, I'm a few days in front and have just made Iguazu.
I would recommend when you head north-east after Jujuy, take the Routa 34 north then the Routa 81 east. Both are good roads and you will miss the corrupt cops stealing your money on the lower route. Avoid Monte Quemando. My map showed Routa 81 as part dirt and all my inquiries at the tourist information said the same. But I found the top section very good getting progressively worse till Formosa.
There is a good campsite (9 peso per day) just north of Jujuy (10 km) at Yala they also have cabins (30 pesos per day). Or there is a good hostel in Jujuy.
Hostal-Inn at 30 p/p in dorms.
Salta has great architecture but the people are friendlier in Juyuy. Do take the Routa 9 from Salta to Jujuy as the views are stunning.
On Routa 34 fill up at Embacacion as on routa 81 the next fuel stop is at Ign Guilerremo N. Juarez which is nearly 200 miles.
You can cross from Argentina to Brazil at Iguazu.
I am in Iguasu till Friday (22/08) then on down to Bs As. I'm on a Suzuki DL650.
