Mexico To Ushuaia - Paperwork
Hi, for those interested: I bought a Honda 125 new in Veracruz, Mexico for my ride south to Tierra del Fuego. Only problem was registering the bike. The bike must be registered at a home rather than at a hotel. The chief seemed sympathetic to an old Brit in his seventies riding a small bike south to Argentina. He would accept an electricity bill as proof of domicile. He showed me his own electricity bill and left it on his desk while dealing with more pressing problems. Registration certificate and receipt for purchase were the only documents required at any border. Some borders took time and patience - see entering Peru on my blog at home and some were almost ludicrously friendly. Entering Honduras I was invited by the Chief of Customs to his office for a and watch Mexico play France in the World Cup
Some guidebook writers routinely portray Latin American officialdom as venal. This was not my experience. To the contrary, all were helpful.
