I know the things that can be imported, i'm from Argentina and I go to customs once or twice a month. All the orders bellow 999 dollars (or low qty) the customs consider them for personal use.

IMHO, be very pacient 'cause it's going to take time.

You are in good hands with Javier and Sandra

Mervifwdc, please follow the advice of javkap, he and Sandra have been helping overlanders for many many years - and not only with import problems, but with hospitality and good cheer.

I will bow out unless javkap thinks I can help with anything specific. This problem is better handled by one person and that person is javkap.

I would like to add that it is always best to determine to the best of your ability what the law is and do what is right, no matter what country you are visiting.

But, for those who live here in Argentina, and have developed friendships with the authorities, those same authorities might well bend the law - this is true for each of the many many countries I have visited.

Hi Everyone,

Many thanks for all the information, it's making it a lot clearer to us. Javcap (and Mrs Javcap!) are helping us out. I'll post again when we know more.

Merv.

Just a quick note to tidy this up for anyone reading in the future.

We had to come to ba to sort this, the person who's name is on the airways bill needs to visit customs, and this makes it a lot smoother. Javcap got us hooked up with a good agent in the airport, and we went there to get the parts. UPS had told is it would take them 15 days to process the package through customs, but by going there ourselves, with javcap's contact, we got the package processed and out in a few hours, at less than half the cost UPS had quoted us.

Many thanks to everyone who helped us out especially Sandra at Dakar motors.

All that's left is a few more in ba, and then another 25 hr bus ride back to our truck in esquel.

Merv and Sarah.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
