Need Route Advice for South America

Two of us are planning on coming into Sao Paulo, Brazil at the end of November and would like to ride down to the south a bit and then north through Argentina and Chile, all the way to North America in about 5 months or so. The only thing is it sounds like it rains a bit there during Dec/Jan/Feb in certain areas. Anyone have any good advice on where to go at what time of the year. We would like to do some mountain trekking if possible along the way.
Thanks,
Jolanta

To do all that and get to North America in 5 months is pushing it.

If you're planning on going from Brazil all the way down to TDF and then up the Andes, I'd allow 8 months as a minimum and that's without actually spending any time in North America.

For treking, you have Torres Del Pane and Machu Picchu etc. Loads of choice.

Need more time!

What are you riding? You NEED more time. Sure, you can RACE it, but you can lose 20 days with just an accident or a border crossing complication.

The rainy season won't be that much of an issue until you hit Equador if you stay along the coast, but that is a lot of boring Panamericana. I would take more time (or choose a closer finish) and get off the coast!

Hope this helps

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
