Need Tires BMW F650GS Central America

We are in Mexico now and will be in Guatemala next week. Heading for Argentina. We need front tires for the two F650GS bikes size 100/90-19 dual sport tube type. Would like Metzler Sahara or Tourance. Found one Maxis here in San Christobal de las Casas Mexico. But we have about 2500 km of tread left so I would like the 2 identical Metzlers.

Does anyone have a lead on availablity in Central America? The BMW dealer in Guatemala City has not answered my email. We both speak Spanish so we can call on the phone. Still "no tenemos" has been the answer usually given with no lead on other dealers.

any suggestions are appreciated

website is Sampson South Bound

Thanks a lot

BMW Dealer in Costa Rica

The BMW dealer in San Jose, Costa Rica, usually has tires in stock. He usually replies quickly to emails:

In Guatemala city you can visit the various dealers for all the big 4 Japanese brands and have a look in at FPK at 7 Av 8-08 ,Zona 4 , right in the business section of Guate south of Zona 1. FPK is a big autoparts and motorcycle parts and accessory store, they usually have a good selection of tires at good prices. Installation is done by one of the nearby stores, or any one of your choice.

Tires in Guatemala City aren't only available, but they are also cheap. Aside from BMW of Guatemala there are two others that I called yesterday who had 17" rears and 19 or 21" fronts. Guate is a fully modern city where you can get absolutely anything you need. Well, I can't seem to find a small drybag.. but almost anything.

BMW Guatemala: (502) 2384-8060
ORGIS: (502) 2331-4193 or 2715-5003
Moto Punto: (502) 2360-9522
Just ask to speak to someone who speaks english, as all 3 shops have someone who speaks english very well.

My new tire set (Tourances!) are being installed today at BMW.

With a couple of days notice, I think you can get anything you want for your bike or riding gear in Guatemala City. Zona 9 is where all the moto shops are located(well, bmw is in zona 4, which is right next to 4).

I have the GPS coordinates of BMW on the bike if someone needs it. Guate is a bitch to get around at first, but once you figure out how to read the addresses and understand where the zones are, it is actually quite easy and extremely regular.

As you come into San Jose, CR off the Pan Am you will spot a Toyota dealer. Hang a left and this will take you around the corner to a Suzuki dealership that can set you up with tires.

There is a little German run hotel (somewhat mildewed) on the main strip as well. Reasonably priced and walking distance to the downtown area (chaotic!!!)

Hi dg

Please give us the co-ordinates for the BMW dealer in Guatemala City.

I will need some tires for my 1150 when I'm down there in one month from now, do you think he will have stock or should I pre-order them?
I would like Conti TKC front and Michillen rear.

Thanks

Johan

I lost the coordinates as I messed up my computer that had the tracklogs and well.. the GPS that I marked it with is also broken.

Technology wise, its been a rough trip!

Well let me tell you about the BMW dealer in Guatemala City. They did not have any 19 in tires for a 650GS. We both speak Spanish, good Spanish, and I had email exchange with them for a week in advance of the 20K service done there. I also personally checked the tire shops and bike shops on Ave 7. NO HAY. Finally had a set of Metzler Tourances flown in from USA.

So maybe it will be better to try and make Costa Rica or Panama with my current tires? I probibly have enough tread on for another 4000km, and is now near Mexico City. Do you think it will be more than 4000km to Costa Rica?

My advice is to call the BMW dealer in advance and check on the tires. You have a 1150 so the tires are easier to find that the 650GS stuff. There are about 20 motorcycle stores and parts stores within a 10 minute walk from the BMW dealership. The BMW dealer does good work at a reasonable price. They just could not find tires for me. Funny because they had a bunch of 800s and 650 with our size on the floor.
