More info needed...

More data needed from xfiltrate....

Jens and friend , OK , now I have some data to work with. Thanks for detailing the situation by private message.... But to advise you properly I need to know more...Here are the problems you might face in Argentina.

Are the bikes safe and in a secure location? Confirm this!

Every foreign vehicle/motorcycle is issued a Temporary vehicle Import Permit upon entering Argentina. This is true if riding in or shipping in.

I need to know if you have the Temporary Vehicle Import Permits that the Dutch secured upon entering Argentina with his bike / bikes?

I need to know the names on the actual titles and registrations of the bikes. I understand the title might be from "Kenya". I assume your name will not be on the title and that is an almost insurmountable problem for securing an extension of the Temporary Vehicle Import Permit for the bikes.

The cost of an extention is between $500.00 and $600.00 dollars US as you have to pay a fine for the time the bike was illegally in the country due to expired Temporary Vehicle Import Permit.

Also, is the license plate # listed on the title or just on the registration? You must have the same plate that is indicated on title or registration papers and these must be in your name, not the name of previous owner.

If you have a title from Kenya without your name, corresponding exactly to your passport ,you will not be issued an extention of the Temporary vehicle Import Permit and with this, your bike might be impounded once this fact comes to the attention of the police or at any border upon trying to exit Argentina.

It takes more than 6 months to have a bike released once impounded and without proper title in your name, the bikes/bikes will not be returned to you.

If you have the above documents please scan them into an e-mail and e-mail them to me.

It is only when I see the date of expiration and the port/border of entry can I advise a legal course for you to follow. And, I cannot further advise without seeing the title and registration papers for the bikes.

The best insurance company is "Parana Insurance" and I am sure it will be available in Mendosa. They can sell you policies for Argentina and the bordering countries.

I do not believe you can purchase Argentine insurance via internet, for bikes without a title and registration in your name....from Argentine companies and I do not reccomend buying from an international company due to cost and availability of agents to help you when you need help, and the complications of these particular bikes...

The Argentine insurance is very inexpensive , about $20.00 US a month, as I said in my reply to you at one of your Hubb threads.

No honest insurance company will sell you insurance in Argentina with an expired Temporary vehicle Import or without having a valid title and registration for the bike in your name.

If a company does, they are not obligated to pay for accidents or damages because they will claim the bike is illegal and this voids their obligation. Of course, many, many unethical companies will take your money, but you will not have any coverage when you might need it.

I strongly suggest getting your money back, flying into Buenos Aires and buy new or used Argentine registered motorcycles here. Then you can sell them here legally after your tour or park them here forever... As for exiting Argentina as a foreign tourist riding an Argentine registered bike, see my thread above this one...

Standing by and it is good to know the rules for the games we play, that is the only way we can overcome the challenges and prevail. xfiltrate

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
