Parts in North Peru Help

Hi My wife and I are in Piura North Peru. KTMs being serviced and have just been told both my Rockers arms are failing. These were replaced 2 months ago !! we have been told there are no replacements for a KTM690 r 2014 twin in Peru and it will take 20 days to obtain replacements! Any one know good dealers with parts or am I best to put the bike on a trailer to Ecuador? Thanks

Consider asking Toby at adventure motorcycle tours in Peru and all South America - Home if he can help. He's a top bloke.

From experience, I'd be very surprised if any South American bike dealer has any parts beyond the odd oil filter or sprocket. They're all going to have to order stuff from the mother ship. That's their business model.

Consider ordering the stuff and go to the Galapagos while you wait?

Is anyone flying in soon who could mule the parts in for you?

Waiting only 20 days for parts in south-America would be great. As Chris said - if anyone is flying in they could bring parts from EU or US. If not maybe have a look at http://Motorcyclespareparts.eu and order the parts yourself. They can DHL the parts - but it would still take approx 10-14 days until you got the parts.

Patience and more patience is what is needed in S.America.

Good luck anyhow!

I will not tell how long I have been waiting for spare parts here in Chile.....it would have ruined your sleep for days...

if these guys don´t have it in stock then your only solutios is to order them: Grupo Socopur
if the parts are less than US$200 then you could have then here in a week with DHL because they would not pay taxes and go thru customs quickly.

if you want to call me maybe i can explain it better: 946562645

good luck!!!!

Thanks for all your advice

Got advised to make my way to a recommended KTM dealers in Ecuador "KTM del Ecuador" in Cuenca. They had the parts, opened up the bike then said, there is nothing wrong with the Rocker Arms and the shims are within tolerance ? ? ? They could not say why the mechanic in Peru thought they were failing. I didn't think to check myself. There was a strange noise coming from the bike but KTM but that down to one of the small hoses not being attached.

Anyway Cuenca turned out to be a fabulous place that I did not have on our route.. thanks again for the advice and offers of help (emails, what's app etc).

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
