pucallpa to cruzeiro do sul / amazonia west
hello out there,
some maps show a direct road connection between the cities of pucallpa (peru) and cruzeiro do sul (brazil). guidebooks suggest that this road does not exist.
has anyone ever tried to cross the border there?
good luck to everyone

Hi,
If been looking for the same info for a while. But more than plans of building a road, I have never found or heard of. I recently received en email of somebody who lived in Pucallpa. Who gave my this responce
--------
Pucallpa is kind of the end of the road. One main road
in and out. I don´t know of any plans to build the roads you mentioned,
but I am reasonably sure they don´t exist right now. I will check around
and see if I am wrong.
--------
Info on this topic elsewhere on the web:
http://www.pacificislandtravel.com/s.../ontoperu.html
search for pucallpa+boqeuiroa
on google and you find info on plans of building a road. (boqeuiroa is on the border)
I want to do this route(if possible) november of this year and than continue on to Rio Branco Porto Velho and Manaus. If there is no connection between pucallpa and brasil I will take the Cusco - Peurto maldondo - Rio Branco route.
If you find any info let me know...
Cheers Mark

In bradt's amazon handbook. The gap between pulcallpa and boqeuiroa(border)is described as a two day riverjourney from pucallpa and than a a trek to the jungle to the beginning of the road on the border. There lots off drug traffiking and smugling. So it seems possible but with a bike? it's a long way back if it's not.

Hi,
I went to Pucallpa and caught the boat down stream. Pucallpa is a bit mad but its an ok place - didn't see or hear anything when I was there about a road out of town towards Brasil. I enjoyed the adventures on the boat , for sure.
Oh , whoops , this isn't very helpful is it !!

Lula e Alan García anunciam ligação rodoviária entre Cruzeiro do Sul e Pucallpa
15 diciembre 2009

Bump
Hi!
Interesting situation, a question that is still relevant after 16 years on a forum! I am also looking into doing this route, particularly from Cruzeiro to Peru.
Any advice, updates or other information?
Cheers!

This is from the other road, the one via Puerto Maldonado. 2009 was from the time before the tarmac. It was still an adventure than. In 2001 it took me over a week to get from the border to Cuzco, now you can do it in a day.

Both Lula and Garcia were involved in the " Lava Jato" scandal with the brazilian firm Odebrecht, the construction company which also build the Puerto Maldonado road.
Lula was imprissoned and Garcia comitted suicide. I guess the Rio Branco - Pucalpa road plans have been put aside for a while
