Receiving parts in Brazil- getting duty exemption??
I have been waiting for a fuel pump for 5 weeks now that was sent from the US. It is finally at the post office but they wont give it to me without paying $550 Reis duty. I have been told by the post office that I can fill out a form and send it to the receita federal or go and try for an excemption at their office. The problem is that they cant give me (find) a form and the receita federal is 2hs away, and not speaking portuguesse adds to the complication. I have looked on their website and it is like finding a needle in a haystack, needless to say I have not found anything.
Has anyone had experience with this? I know in 2008 I had this happen in Argentina and all I had to do was explain at the GPO in Buenos Aires that the part was not staying in the country and was needed for me to leave the country. I showed the temporary Impor papers and all was ok. It may have helped that I speak spanish.
Thanks
