Revolution Road guys need accomodation in Buenos Aires
Me and My mate Steve are in Buenos Aires waiting for our 1940s Nortons to clear customs so we can start our trip following in Che Guevara's wheeltracks around Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia and Venezuela.
We're carrying on in the same way as Che and Alberto, staying with locals wherever possible rather than in hotels.
We've stayed with a great couple the past few days but need to find a new place to stay for another couple of days.
Any bikers in Buenos Aires or beyond (miramar, bahia blanca, bariloche etc) who can put us up, please get in touch!!

you don't get it..
Waterfox, you don't seem to get it.
We like to stay with locals because we get to find out about the real place, not the thin surface veneer seen by tourists staying in hotels.
I'd rather stay with a local and take them out for meals each night than put money into the pockets of Mr Hilton & Co. for some sterile hotel room that's identical to every other one in their global empire.
We'll carry on just fine as we are but thanks anyway for your misguided advice.

Man, you're one misinformed guy!
Couchsurfing is a two-way street. The couple we just stayed with toured the UK a couple of years ago with no accomodation costs and learned much more about the country than they ever would have done by travelling around staying in hotels - not that they could afford hotels in the first place. This summer they're off to mainland Europe doing the same and are more than happy to return the favour for travellers to their beautiful city.
Can we drop this now? Life's too short!

That would be a rather brief trip as Che Guevara DID NOT RIDE a motorcycle through South America....Read the book.

Don and I are settled into our small apartment for the week, guys, but there isn't room for two more. Our wives have taken up all the extra space. I'll be back at Dakar Motos next week, so I'm enjoying this now.

Colombia
Genuine enquiry Albert. Am I wrong if I think the present Colombian government is a right wing, selfish colonial group prolonging minority power over the majority indiginous disenfranchised? I have long thought the original ideals of FARC were great, then long ago lost in corruption. I also thought many teachers and trades union leaders were still being assasinated by the government. I am not being sarcastic. Linzi.

IMHO it might be nice to not continue to hijack swampcat's post. If you're got a bed for him, fine, if you know a bed, fine, but if you don't like his style/desire for a cheap bed, maybe email/PM him.
It might be interesting to start a new Guevara/FARC/Colombian government thread for your discussion.
cheers
Chris
PS. I hope swampcat's Norton is more reliable than Che's. I enjoyed the film (cinematography and reminder of places I'd been...) but found the book too boring.

Hi Waterfox
The lingua franca of this forum is English, so please use that. Please translate this into English or it'll be deleted. I've just put the text into a translation program and despite the software's failings, it doesn't sound very nice. The overriding majority of people on the HUBB are civil to each other.
Thanks
Chris
PS. I imagine you and the Norton chaps won't be meeting up.

Help
Swampcat, if you check guzzigalore.nl you'll find he met with bikers in Argentina I think. Sorry for not going through the site to give a link but it's a great site. It's in English mostly after Colombia. Scroll down and view the right side to get the archive. Damned good luck and best wishes. I am envious of you. Linzi.

Colombians do not care much for Che or his politics and the mood here is distinctly right wing. On the other hand, the mood of the indigenous groups is distinctly left wing and they are continually labeled as FARC. Che and Alberto had lost "La Poderosa" by the time they hit Colombia and the book really has little to say about the country. What Che did have to say about Colombia was pretty negative and he would probably feel the same way today.
You are welcome to stay at my modest place in Bogota, but I will probably have moved to Santa Marta by the time you arrive. You will be equally welcome to stay with me there; wherever that is.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
