Which route from Buenos Aires to Iguasu Falls?

I'll be leaving next week to return to Buenos Aires and continue my trip north through Brazil, Venezuela, and Colombia (then back to Panama where I live).

I'm looking for suggestions on the best route from BA to Iguasu Falls, and suggestions on places to see or stay on the way. I note that the Brazilian real has gotten very expensive vs the US dollar recently, so am trying to economize somewhat.

I believe Ruta 14 is the most direct however watch out for the crooked cops as described in this thread.

If you can only afford to see the waterfalls from one side, I would view it from the Brazilian side as it is far more spectacular there.

Found the town of Yapeyu to be a peaceful place (east a few K off or 14) with a nice hotel. Took 14 to 120 to 12, not sure it was the best way but it got me there. You need to plan a whole day for the falls to get a good look around. As mentioned above the police are tring to supliment their income on 12 and 14.

Hola Steve

Hey Hey Steve,

So glad to hear that you are getting back on the road, kind of jealous in a big way. I am back in Phoenix now soon to head to NYC then off to sunny Blighty!!! Well I do recommend heading via Uruguay as it was a pleasant surprise for me with great campsite, but would be a bit cold now I guess not like the summer months that I was there?

Do go up to Florianapolis if you can & I can recommend some friends of mine who have a great cottage that you can rent for a while. Send me a pm with a Panama number It would be great to have a chat with you. Great ride from there to Iguazu. Ciao Ciao Mo.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
