San Martin de los Andes, Argentina

I'm hanging out here for now, until the HU meet in Viedma early December. Spring is coming to the lake country, as good a place as any I suppose to wait for warmer weather to come to Patagonia.

Anyone coming through, give a holler...we'll do some vino.

Now, Chuck- Why would you ever want to hang out in San Martín?

Oh.......... You're making us jealous, Bro.

"Life has called you to the place where Paradise was once: San Martín de los andes.

Only after the initial surprise you can understand that enjoying has to do with an agreeable environment, the peace and silence of nature, the music of the forest, the singing of birds, the soft flattering of ducks on the transparent Lake Lácar while you let your dreams drift with the wind.

Life is constantly renewed in this little corner of the world. The clear white of the snow or the explosion of colours in spring make our senses burst with hope and tranquility."

Explorador-

Sometimes you just have to suck it up, take the good with the bad!

There is snow here on the mountains, and somedays it rains so its not really paradise every day.

...hope that makes you feel better.

I went thru there on my way to Bolivia in May...The sceneries were stunning, especially around the road of the 7 lakes, but it was starting to get seriously cold at night. Fortunatly, the argentine asados kept us warm and fed =)

The ripio between Bariloche and San Martin was fun!!

The Road of the 7 Lakes hasn't opened up yet after winter, but soon, and since its now officially spring, the nights are getting warmer. And after coming here from Bolivia, all the weight I lost there and in Peru has been regained, and a tad more I fear...probably the bread, or maybe the vino, but it could be the asado, or maybe the pasta...er, its all good after Bolivia, although I did have some good sushi and sashimi in Cochabamba, and I do miss the fruit.

And that url is fixed now (what was I :confused1: )

You could gain some more weight heading down to Bariloche, the chocolate there is...addictive I advise you the sport hostel there, nice view, big garage for the bike, wifi, friendly staff, double bed...
http://www.labolsadeldeporte.com.ar/

A bit more south, if you miss the good old flower power days, El Bolson might keep you a few days to a few month. Quem Quem campground is 2 km away, 10 pesos a night to sleep in the refuge. Dicky, the owner, was travelling in the US at that time with his US gf. All you can smoke bonanza! Worth the detour. Family atmosphere.
BIENVENIDOS AL QUEM-QUEM | REFUGIO Y CAMPING EN EL BOLSON

PS : did you ever manage to finish ALL the meat served for asado in restaurants in Argentina? I tried, sincerely, but never could make it

El Bolson....I'm heading down there on the 13th - the annual malt festival, as in Beer which fits the mission.

Thanks for the recommendations - I'll look Dicky up, say high.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
