I need advise on selling my Chilli registrated bike in Colombia. My trip is about to finish. But as I cant take my bike home I would like to sell it. I have no idea on the legal mathers involed in such an operation though. Is it possible to sell it to an other traveler, who could then drive it back south again, through a Colombian notaria? Or to a person in Colombia, altough I think that probably there will be a hudge import tax. Or can I just go to some bike dealer somewhere and sell it without papers? I even have the puppy dream for the bike (thats the one where you find a farm where she can be used and play around freely )

The bike in question is a Chilli registered Honda 150 NXR Bross. Its a small bike, but she is a fighting little hellcat. I have done 14.000 km, making the bike have a total of 34.000 km, and there is still probably a good 3000k to go before i reach Bogota, I am in Banos Equador now. Never had any trouble. Of cource I wasnt going fast when its steep uphill or over 3.000m but who cares.
Its with pain in my hart that I have to sell it but shipping and importing the bike to Belgium would just be to expensive. I paid 1.500 US dollar for it but would be happy enough to get 800 US for it at the end.

So if anybody has any advise on what I can do. Please, shoot. Becausse I have no idea on how to tackle this puppy.

you could try these guys, Motolombia, they may hold your bike until sold to another traveller.

Selling to a colombian is not difficult, just some paperwork, and, yes, quite a large import tax. I wouldn't bother with a notary if selling to another traveller, just amend the documentation, done this with a bike before, but it's not the hardest thing to do, if you want things legit, if you can speak spanish.

I'll be back in colombia in about a month, and will need a bike, so might be interested.

I bought a motorcycle Yamaha 2012 125cc in Barranquilla and now I want to sell it in bogota because I am going to drive a car with friends to bolivia.

I have a question on how the paperwork details work. locals told me that since I bought it in barranquilla I have to do the paperwork there but I think mail the paperwork instead of going there.

Can anyone help me find what documents I need? and best way to sell the bike?
if anyone is interested in buying the bike it will be near Portal Norte, Bogota.

We're planning to buy and register motorbikes in Chile and finish our trip in Colombia after 4 months. Apart of future problems with finding a buyer - can we have any problems, when leaving the country (airport) without the bike that we originally temporalily imported? Would we have any extra stamp in passport? any info in database?
Has anyone any experience with that?

As far as leaving the country, there is no problem. When you enter Co with a motorbike you get a separet paper from the Diane (Co adouana) this is valied for 90 days. If you do not get this paper renewed (wich you can and is very easy) the import paper for the bike just expires. So there are no red lights going of when you pass customs to go home.
HOWEVER, I have no idea what hapens to the papertrail you leave behind I'm a bit worried that when I return to co in a couple of years there will be a red light going of when I enter. But nothing is shure about this. Same thing with Chili.
If you sell the bike legally: make shure you have official looking papers that show you are not longer the owner and somebody else, make shure you have name and pasport info and stuff like that, is driving the bike now. You need to do this anyway if the other person will try to leave the country with the bike. If you sell it illegally, illegal meaning selling it for scrap not selling it to a pimp with golden beads woven in his hear called SugarBear. I would just go to the police after you sold it to have it declared stolen. So at least you ty everything of. Of cource if you sell it without papers they will probably want the papers anyway to do something dodgy with it. They did it to me so I didn't have the papers to claim it stolen. Again no idea what's gonna happen to that.
