bike in SA
I was wondering how much trouble it is getting a bike titled in your name down there. If you buy it from a dealer I worry about taking it across borders. A friend did it but he had to get some other paperwork befor ehe went down.

Basically you either need the bike to have a regeistration document in your name, or an official (notorised) permission to use the bike. This is called a Carter Poder. They just want to ensure the bike is not stolen. There is a good post by Phil Wicks which explains the steps in registering a bike in Chile. We found that it can be a bit tricky leaving chile as they want you to have a permanent RUT (tax code) to allow you to leave without exporting the bike. But after a few hours we were able to cross the border any way. There are a number of ways around these issues, send me an email if you are interested in buying the bike. Its great fun riding around south america, i suggest you get on the plane and meet us in lima and you can ride her off before the month is out!
Good luck,
dave

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
