Shipping from Panama, Late Nov.
I was recently in San Juan Del Sur Nicaragua, and was told that a group of motorcycles had just left for the Cosat Rican border with the intetion of shipping to South America. If any of you read this please get reply if you would like to get together in Panama and maybe share some shipping expenses. I am currently at the Arenal volcano in Costa Rica, should be in Panama in a few days.

Hey Andy, Chris Jones here from RTW101.com. I don`t know if we are the group you heard about but my girlfriend and I just left San Juan del Sur a little while ago on our KLR650s. We just arrived in Quito, Ecuador last night after some entertaining shipping adventures in shipping and right now we are waiting for our customs agent to get the bikes out of customs. For what it is worth we used Panavia Carga and paid $875 for both bikes. I don`t know if I can recommend them yet as we have not been able to see the bikes. Our first impression was a little shaky but we`ll see how they look at customs. If you find yourself in South America soon drop us a line at rtw101.com. We plan to work our way south at not too great a speed. Hope this helps. Cheers.

HI Andy,
This is Pete. I'm in San Jose right now and I should be shipping from Panama in the first week of December. Including you and Xavier, I think there are seven of us going- plus Catherine from Belgium shipping her car. With that many vehicles a container might be a good option. I think the problem is that half of us are going to Equador and the other half to Colombia.
Keep in touch though and we'll se what we can work out.

Hi,
I am currently in Panama city. I plan to ship to SA in January, but that is because I am going to Canada and Mexico over Xmas, storing my bike here in the meantime. However, if the timing is right, shipping by boat could be an option for me too. I will be in Panama city on December 1-4, so give me a shout then.
In the mentime, I am heading to the north and the east to Yaviza.

I should be there by then and I will give you a shout.
I seem to recall that you are on a BMW. Have you been to the BMW shop there? I need a part and the guys here don't have it. If you have any contact info on that shop I could sure use it so I can have them order the part now and have it by the time I am there.
Yavisa hey? I hear that road is pretty tough if it's been raining. It's raining cats and dogs here, but if it's dry there I might give that a try too.

Hi,
There is a BMW shop in Panama city on
50 Calle y 70 (somewhere around there, just before the McDonald's)
50 Calle is a major oneway street running west to east. Be sure to avoid rush hour, as Panama centre is hell. I myself ran several oneway streets the opposite direction on the sidewalk to avoid being stuck in a gridlock.
I don't know their phone number, but you can get that in any Yellow Pages in Panama. Ask in your hotel. The BMW shop is also a car dealership and so far I only saw one beemer on the road here.
Yes, it is raining cats and dogs and for that reason I am not going to Yaviza for now. I was in Portobelo and it rained almost all day. Though it will slowly end, as the dry season should begin next week.
Be sure to see either the Gatun or Miraflores locks on the canal (Gatun are bigger), as they are impressive.
I am in Panama city until December 4, but will come back in January to continue to South America.
