Should I buy and start in Santiago or BA??
Hi,
Had orginally planned to start in Santiagoand buy there and travel south anti clockwise.
Having second thoughts now and considering starting in BA and going south clockwise.
My question is im seeing posts that 2nd hand bikes are a lot dearer in Chile. Where would you guys reccomend?? It doesnt really alter what I do or when I go but preferably id like to get a bike as cheap as i can.
Thanks

Depends on where the bike is registered. An ARG registered bike cannot be taken outside the country by a foreigner. A CHL registered bike seems to be able to exit CHL only on a few crossings, most others are refused (search threads for more info). Your best solution is to get a foreign registered bike that someone else has ridden and it at the end of there trip - keep in mind that most trips end in BsAs as most people ride the PanAm south.

Very true. Check in with Dakar Motos in BsAs. Lots of US/Europe registered bikes for sale.

Buying in CH is much easier than in AR. Make sure your Power of attorney specifies all countries that you may be traveling to.. Look for help from the santiago community. There is not that much difference in the used bike prices.
I have crossed many Chilean borders and never have much of a problem.

Hey when are you planning on starting your trip?
A buddy and I are currently heading south to Ushuaia from Alaska and will be selling our KlR650's in Chile or Argentina. They are both registered in Canada and kitted out with panniers and all the goodies needed to do the trip!!
We will be selling them around the end of Oct.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
