South America TVIP

I have searched this forum and have not found much about all the Temporary Vehicle Import Permit information for all South American countries. It would be very helpful to have a thread with all this information on it. Please post what you know and i will edit this post and add your info.

Chile - 90 days
Brazil - 90 days
Uruguay - 12 months
Paraguay - 3 months
Bolivia - 30 days
Peru - 90 days
Ecuador - 90 days
Colombia - 60 days

I believe Bolivia is 3 months but it's easy to obtain an extension to 6 months.

I had my 180 days Bolivian permit extended in La Paz with another 180 days. But when we left to Brasil last week, the border officials went crazy. They never saw a vehicle that had that kind of permit and were really keen to find out who had signed that piece of paper. After some phone calls everything seemed OK and we were let go out of the country...

Adventurous greetings,
Coen

Need to verify the Canada/USA, they both offer 12 months but I have heard that you do not get a restart (like most countries in SA) by running up to Canada and back to USA.

Good idea this list. By way of a bump, would be interesting to hear the TIP deal in Colombia, VNZ, Ecuador and Peru.

Ecuador is 3 months, you can go out of the country and come back the same day you will have another 3 months. You are allowed to do this only twice in a year (2 x 3 months in a year) OR, if you have two passports because you have two nationalities then you can do the same with each passport. That is what I did.

Peru has been 90 days each time for me, same as visa stamp, Columbia was 60 same as visa, Ecuador 90.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
