Tyres in Brasil for AT and F 650?
Hi,
we are leaving for Brasil and will need new tyres there. After having written to every BMW- and Hondadealer, to lots of tyre dealers - all I know is: Afrika Twins are not sold in Brasil (isn't that poor?)....
Can anybody give me a clue, where to buy tyres for Honda Afrika Twin and BMW F650 GS? You have a mail-contact, so that we could order them in advance?
We will go down all the coast from Fortaleza to Rio, then over Sao Paulo and Curitiba to Asuncion.
Thanks a lot for the help!
Frank

pirelli tyres are made in brazil. i'm sure in big cities you can buy 130 or 140/80-17 MT60 or similar that fit on an AT or f650. i'm sure you can also get a 21 or 19 inch front too. when you arrive somewhere ask at the dealers. maybe try to find the pirelli address off the internet if you are really keen.

Pirelli are very easy to find for rear tire for either bike in any large town. Avoid the MT40, which we discovered is more for lighter bikes (rides fine, but narrow and wears after 7,000km). MT21 is great for off-road, but wear quick on the asphalt. MT60 is a very good road tire, but does nothing in dirt. MT70 is supposed to be dual sport, but probably no better than MT60.
In the cities, you will have easier time -- we just bought Mich T66 at the Suzuki dealer in Salvador -- more a road tire, but we will be doing mostly asphalt miles now to Panama. Metz Saraha 3s are also sold in major cities.
The 19" front on the F650 may be a problem for you (we converted our rims to 21"). You may only find in "BMW country" -- the northernmost dealer is in Rio, then Riberao Preto, Sao Paulo, Curitiba, and finally in Porto Alegre.
Buy all your parts in Brasil -- import prices in Argentina are beyond ridiculous!!

Well, thanks to you.
We are back and how was it with the tyres?
We found directly Michelin shops ( we used the one in Sao Pessoa) and ordered there for Rio.
For the Afrika it was easy, but for the F it was a bit more difficult - but worked.
We wanted Michelin because on the AT rear a Pirelli is good for 8000km, a Michelin for 14.000.
