Tyres in La Paz

I´m heading south through Lima this weekend and have enough rubber to see me nicely to La Paz. Does anyone know where I can buy a 150 70 17¨ in La Paz? If not it´s an early change for me in Lima.

Thanks.

Hello,
well, I actually do not know if you get that dimension, but there is a place in La Pace where you get tyres for motorbikes. the famous and more expensive one is Nosiglia (see adress below, about 50 Dollar and more) and the other is as well in La Paz upper city nabouve placa san Francisco (about 230 Bolivianos front a fronttyre):

SDA Importaciones
Respuestos genuinos para Motocicletas
Calle Colombia 496 – San Pedro
La Paz – Bolivia
Tel: 2480734 – 719-04139
Email: felsickjanett ATTTT hotmail DOTTTT com

Well maybe you wont get that tyre in that store but there are others just arond it and one of them might have this dimension. However, they usually just have Pirelli and do not have continental TKC80 or similar. I had to buy a motocross tyre for my Africa Twin, since they did not have anything else. Better is to buy wheels in Santa Cruz, where you will find them more easily (and cheaper than in Brasil, even if the product is produced in Brasil!).

Nosiglia Sport Ltda.
Av. Costanera No. 29 (Calacoto)
Zona sur
La Paz – Bolivia
Tel: (591-2)2794904
Fax: (591-2)2771395
Email: nossport ATTTT ceibo DOTTT entelnet.bo

Have a nice ride.

In Santa Cruz there is a Motorcycle shop that have tyres for big bikes. The name of the store is BEKAR but I don't have their address with me. Possibly they can ship. They had pirelli MT60 140/80 17 if it can help you.

Nosiglia never had a 17" 140 70 this time last year in La Paz - I found Bolivia to have the worst stock of spares in South America. Front tyres were no bother though....

Good luck.

Tires in Peru???

I've been in Lima, Peru for a week, trying to locate replacement tires for my R1200GS. I seem to have exhausted all the Peruvian possibilities. (None were available passing through Ecuador and Panama as well.) I am open to any dual sport tire, but there seems virtually nothing available in the 110/80 R19 and 150/70 R17 sizes the R1200GS requires.

I can have BMW in Santiago, Chile ship me two Metzler Tourances for only $1,600! (They're only $800 if I pick them up in Chile!)
I have inquired with DHL, Fed Ex and UPS. To ship in any tires from the States would cost $700-800, and it's not clear if there would be duties or taxes to pay beyond that.

I could probably fly home and pick them up for less.

Okay, world travelers: what have you done in this situation?
