Christmas in Ushuaia

Steve and I should be there from Washington (State) - following on from Viedma gathering. He's on an 1150GS and I'll be on a 650GS. Then, up the Carraterra Austral to Santiago.

I'm happy to say that I have edited and updated the first post to reflect the number of people who will try to be in Ushuaia for Christmas. So far it looks like we will be a dozen or so. There should be a few stories told over turkey dinner (and local ).

I'm adding this post to give this thread a bit of a bump.

Cheers
Robert

Is there any interest in planning a meetup for Ushuaia for Christmas 2008? I don't want to confuse this with a full blown Horizons Unlimited Motorcycle Travellers Meeting and this is why I'm using the term "meetup".

We'll be on the road so it will be difficult to plan activities, etc. but it would be great for like minded adventurers to meetup, share stories and have a Christmas Party together. It would also give us something to shoot for.

BTW, there is a planned HU Meeting for Viedma, Argentina sometime in December. I haven't seen the dates for this organized HU Meeting.

By way of introduction, we are a couple who will be riding 2-up on a R12GSA from Canada starting in September, 2008.

Robert

P.S. As of June 3rd, I count 14 people planning to be in Ushuaia for Christmas 2008:
BMWRC (Robert +1)
Siggsy (Simon)
Sime66 (Simon also)
SgtMarty +1
Jeff_Watts (jeffwatts +1)
daveg
Dan23 (Dan, maybe)
fastfreddy (another maybe)
Lorraine (One woman, two dogs in a $750 van across South America)
Steve and Tom

Marc +2 planning on arriving in time for New Years Eve.

I'd like to highjack this thread for just a moment.... If any of you will be going from LaPaz south, there's a woman I owe 50 bolivianos in Patacamaya. (a few hours south of LaPaz, Bolivia) I can reinburse in person or pay any do-gooders with paypal. It's an easy deed, as there's only one road in the town going through... Please email me at LC at LorraineChittock.com if this appeals to your sense of Xmas cheer. ;-)

Hi Pascal

We don't have our final route planned yet. I'd imagine we'll continue to work on this up until shortly before we leave.

How are your plans?

Robert

Route Trip Mexico- TDF october

Hi Robert,

I change the route, because we want to enjoy and visit more places, so we want to spend our trip for 4 months (probably a little more).
Also decided change my 1200gs for the new Gsa and the agency will give it to me the next week.
Nowadays we are working in the route to return, and we are waiting for the contact of the company in Panama to cross the moto and then, decide who is the best if plane or boat.
Anyways we will leave Cancun normally on October 11th. Inform me about your route and we will see if it’s possible to enjoy some miles together.

regards

Pas

Hi Pas

This is good news. Our plan is for us to leave Canada on Sept 19th. We may well have the opportunity to ride together.

What is your route and timeline through Central America to Panama?

Robert

Pas

This is a quick message to you as I need to get ready for work.

Your English is much much better than my Spanish.

It looks like our schedule will put us a little ahead of you. We are planning to fly the bike to Quito, Ecuador.

Ciao
Robert

Looking forward to seeing you there

Hopefully you'll have a chance to shower on the way. ;-)

... I know I'm hoping to find a couple before Ushuaia.

Cheers

Tom has already indicated the intention to be in Ushaia for Christmas. I'd like to throw in a tea party, as my ride there, will be punctuated with daily stops at 4pm to make tea for people.

I see no reason why I shouldn't make tea for everyone who is in the Ushaia at the gathering too.

I hope my tea sponsor supplies enough, or would be gracious enough to have some posted to us in Ushaia...anyone have a postal address which they could use...Post Office end of the Americas might be a little vague?

Who takes milk and sugar?

Lamble... I prefer milk and honey. I'm sure I'll be able to pick some up at the local market. Glad you'll be able to join us. Robert

Can you get some lemons while you are there BMWRC, just in case we have Earl Grey...oooh and some biscuits, not rich tea though, they just turn into sog and end up as slop in the bottom of the cup. In fact I'll send you a shopping list.

I'll have a word with Republic of Tea- my Tea sponsors, to see what can be done.

Leaving Seattle first week in October from outside the first ever Starbucks down in Pike's Place. I like the irony of starting a tea ride from outside a coffee place, plus as a chained corporate giant, the unchained ethos of the trip is the antithesis of all Starbucks represents.

What's the unchained ethos?

Unchained Across the World | Break free from ordinary! hope you'll contribute with recommendations.

Finally, anyone got or using a satellite phone?
Which service provider do you recommend for a globalstar (I think)?
