Ushuaia Meetup - Christmas 2008
I'm reading several threads of HU members riding in South America this year. Several have stated they hope to be in Ushuaia for Christmas. This is our goal as well.
Is there any interest in planning a meetup for Ushuaia for Christmas 2008? I don't want to confuse this with a full blown Horizons Unlimited Motorcycle Travellers Meeting and this is why I'm using the term "meetup".
We'll be on the road so it will be difficult to plan activities, etc. but it would be great for like minded adventurers to meetup, share stories and have a Christmas Party together. It would also give us something to shoot for.
BTW, there is a planned HU Meeting for Viedma, Argentina sometime in December. I haven't seen the dates for this organized HU Meeting.
By way of introduction, we are a couple who will be riding 2-up on a R12GSA from Canada starting in September 2008.
Robert

Count me in for Ushuaia Xmas party.
I'm on a Dominator and will also be (certainly) smelly and (probably) beardy.

Two friends of mine (from France on R80GS) and my self (from Luxembourg on Yam Super-Ténéré) are planning a trip from Valpo to Ushuaia starting mid December. On xmas we are still on the way, but on New Years Eve we will be in Ushuaia.

Bah Humbug
Put me down as a 'maybe'. Should be in Viedma for the December meet, and I'll decide then. Gotta ride the Carraterra Austral before they pave it, but Christmas camping in Ushuaia's windy desolation never really appealed - especially with tropical beaches and honking cities in range.
Will be good to finally share an overseas , Simon...
Suerte, Dan

Nice one Dan - if not Ushuaia, then elsewhere for sure...

I'm happy to say that I have edited and updated the first post to reflect the number of people who will try to be in Ushuaia for Christmas. So far it looks like we will be a dozen or so. There should be a few stories told over turkey dinner (and local ).
I'm adding this post to give this thread a bit of a bump.
Cheers
Robert

I'd like to highjack this thread for just a moment.... If any of you will be going from LaPaz south, there's a woman I owe 50 bolivianos in Patacamaya. (a few hours south of LaPaz, Bolivia) I can reinburse in person or pay any do-gooders with paypal. It's an easy deed, as there's only one road in the town going through... Please email me at LC at LorraineChittock.com if this appeals to your sense of Xmas cheer. ;-)

Hi Pascal
We don't have our final route planned yet. I'd imagine we'll continue to work on this up until shortly before we leave.
How are your plans?

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
