Venezuela passport stamp

Can anyone confirm what I've heard: Venezuela is the only country in south america that stamps your bike details into the passport next to your immigration stamp.

I'm trying to figure out if I'll be able to fly home from Venezuela without the bike.

It certainly does. Well it did about a year ago at Santa Elena,or something or other. Although, it seemed easier to leave via Cucuta without getting the paperwork cancelled, than to do so.

hola,

if nothing has changed since I travelled in 2002 and 2004 thru Venezuela, than you will get a full size stamp into your passport with the bike details.

in 2004 I came from Brasil (at Santa Elena) and I wanted to save passport pages, so I did not go to the customs. I knew that there are police checkpoints on the road going North, so I rode late in the afternoon and the policeman were too lazy to stop me. So I saved a page in my passport.

I have left Venezuela overland to Colombia and nobody was interested to look at the stamp.

Than even two month later flying my bike out of Caracas airport, I could not get a custom officer to put the exit stamp for bike into my passport. but as I had the airway bill, I did not worry. and as I flew out, nobody asked anything about the bike.

now its up to you what you do. for sure it is illegal to leave the country without the bike. but I know some people who have done it, and I would do it as well if I had to.

Thanks Mika for the advice. As my Venezuelan friend says, everything could be taken care of with a "coima", if necessary, when it comes time for me to fly out. I'm not a fan of corruption, but sometimes you've got to grease the wheels...

Curious to know if anything has changed in the procedures here...

Has anyone been in Venezuela with their bike/vehicle recently? Did your passport get stamped with your bike details? We are considering leaving the bike with a friend for a while before returning and continuing our trip. But obviously don't feel like running into passport troubles because the bike gets registered...

Just a couple of weeks ago they used a full page of my passport for the bike import stamp when I entered Venezuela just outside of Santa Elena. They put a customs exit stamp on the same page when I processed the bike out of the country in San Antonio.

However, I have no idea if they will let you fly out when they see that import stamp and no export stamp in your passport, but its worth a try for sure.
