Video diary from Chile to US

Hi Guys

I started a MC tour in Chile in October 2007 and I´m continuing in 2008. I do a video diary and upload new episodes every once in a while. Here´s the first 30 videos traveling through Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Panama and soon Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Belize, Mexico and US:

NB: Sorry my first tread didn´t show the video playlist as I hoped so here´s one video from Bolivia offroad experience. See all my videos by visiting: YouTube - kaiserkyhl's Channel

Hi Patrick

Yeah, now there´s a video that works and a link ;-)

I brought an expensive Canon HV10 High Definition video camera. I was very happy to begin with because it records beautiful video and is very small and handy, but after a couple of month it stopped working and wouldn´t charge the batteries.

So I had to ship it to Denmark by DHL to repair it on the warranty, since Canon´s warranty only works in the country of purchase. It cost me $100 dollars to sent it from La Paz, Bolivia and I had to buy a small camera while waiting. So I bought a Nikon Coolpix S6, which has been working perfectly, but the quality is poor and only just works for the Youtube showcases. I had hoped to make a full quality program when I got back to try an sell to Danish TV, but that idea is dead now.

And finally I got the Canon camera back some weeks later in Cali, Colombia (which cost me another $200 DHL), did one episode and it stopped working again - crap!

I tried to talk to Canon in Panama, but they refuse to help and I won´t ship it back to Denmark again. DO NOT BUY CANON!!

Concerning your other questions. I love having a kind of purpose and love the process of editing the videos on my laptop. (MacBook intel)

I carry a Gorilla grip tripod, which can be mounted anywhere. Very smart!

I'd love to see your work so far. Any tips as to what the best methods are to carrying all the gear?... and up loading while on the road? Does the movie dominate your trip? Is it too much like work? How rugged are the cams? Do you use a tiny helmet mounted cam? Tripod?

Any tips appreciated ...and of course I'd love to see what your videos!

Patrick

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
