ADAC travel insurance

Hi

Do they do a separate travel insurance policy or is it included in the ADAC plus membership? Google is refusing to translate their website for me at the moment..

Thanks

Fern

I have Langzeit (2 year) travel insurance from them. This is separate from their membership service.

This is from their FAQ

I need a German statutory health insurance if I have LONG TERM ADAC overseas health cover?
Yes, because the foreign health protection LONG applies only abroad.

Lost in translation- not sure if it means that you have to be paying German Statutory Health Insurance to be eligible to buy the policy

Not sure about this. I used to pay german health-insurance when I lived in germany, now I am only paying small monthly fee so that it can be activated in case of need.

Better that you send an email to them and check it.

No, you don't need a German health insurance nor do you need an ADAC membership. The long-term health insurance for travellers is a separate product altogether. And it is only valid for overseas if I remember correctly. I had one for the whole of 2006.

Ok here we go. This is from our experiance as good as I remember, and 2 years ago, so no guarranty:

We took it for our trip, we are Germans. No German Health insurance needed. The insurance is valid all over the world except Germany, USA and Canada (US and CA you can request seperatly at a horrendous price)

The Puls membership gives you a discount, we did it because it pays out as soon as you take two travel insurances.

Each case which you report (hopefully never) has a self "payment" of 50EUR. So no need to report if the cost is 50€ or less.

Fast response, we didn´t had any problem with them. Except when we wanted to prolong it they didn´t allow it because 1st. was too late (you have only some days if expired, OK our mistake) and 2nd a new one you can only get in person, in Germany at their offices (which are everywhere in Germany).

Hopes that helps, we took then a different one, there are plenty good ones and ones where you do not have to pay the first 50€ by your own.

Hope that helps, like I said this is from my memory without guarranty.

Have a safe trip!

Cheers

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
