I doubt if you will get any reply to this before you tell us your nationality, without it nobody can help.

World Nomad's Travel Insurance - The Best? | Adventure Rider
Be careful and tell any potential insurer that you will, I presume, be travelling by motorcycle, read the small print and get answers to any questions in writing as getting cover can be difficult. Just because a particular company offered cover last year does not mean they cover the same thing this year so always ask even if you get a personal recommendation.

We are planning on being out of the US more than staying in. Insurance costs of $1800/month are just ridiculous and I don't want to pay them. Is there anything available world wide that American travelers use out of the country. And if so, what insurance do you use of you return for a month?

World nomads are among the few that will issue and reissue policies when you are on the road. UK citizens will not get cover if they ride bikes. Not sure about US though.
Be aware that if you have a serios problem they may elect to fly you back home and dump you at the airport so you are then reliant on your home countries medical system which can be a big worry (financially) in some countries
They also will only cover you for what they consider a medical emergency overseas and refuse cover for post emergency treatment

For USA residents DAN has good, cheap insurance: Scuba Diving Medical Safety Advice — DAN | Divers Alert Network . Read the fine print and select the sort of policy which suits you. Don't neglect to secure coverage at home, since as Tony says there's no sense having medical repatriation insurance if you can't afford the care once they deliver you.
Hope that's helpful.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
