Reminds me of my favourite Tom Waits lyric "The large print giveth....but the small print taketh away"

That don't so nefarious to me. I wouldn't have expected them to replace cash ... or your credit cards ... I would have been unsure enough about other vehicle contents to read the fine print before hand if I had anything I was worried about.

All that said ... if the original story linked to in this thread is even partially true ... and it sounds very believable to me ... well that sort of behavior is just unforgiveable as far as Im concerned.

It's enough that I wouldn't consider using them.

They failed to refund our stolen devices/cash/cards from our vehicle! It was in the tinny letters though. However, its not for overlanders but backpackers only.

They wrote the fine print... you better read it.

In the words of the immortal Monty Python (Holy Grail):
RUN AWAY ! I had very bad experience with them.

So does anyone have a travel insurance company they think is better? I am about to go to Mexico and Guatemala for a couple months. I have bought World Nomads in the past, but have never had to use it. I am from the USA.

I really don't give a rat's ass if they cover my lost cell phone or whatever, just the medical and evacuation part.

What about HUBB advertisers Global Rescue? And Med Jet Assist?

Med Jet has been around for a while ... no idea what current performance reports may be for either company.

Anyone had the bad luck to have needed one of these companies for evacuation? Any feedback?

World Nomads provides medical as well as evacuation. Medjet is more of a hospital to hospital transport. WN seems a better value if they payout.

I have a riding associate who used MedJet and they served him totally as per policy. He is a US citizen, and the accident happened in the US. I'm aware of a couple more with MedJet, but I'd have to do some searching to confirm the riders. Because of this knowledge, I use them for travel evacuation insurance, but fortunately only have paid the premium and not used the services

And yes, MedJet is a hospital to hospital transfer - to your home hospital of choice. They also have a motorcycle repatriation option, with limits.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
