Africa South to North - when?

Hi.
I'm in South Africa after coming down the west coast, and am planning now on returning up east coast and hopefully across north to Algeria. Are there any suggestions out there as to when is the best time to do this? Finding it difficult to get info. If I can be pointed towards similar thread would appreciate it.
Thanks, Hugh.

I'm in Durban, checking out KZN for a month or two before hopefully heading up east coast. No, nothing I can advise you to avoid. You've probably heard about the roads in Angola (don't think white South Africans the favourite nationality in hte south of the country), mud in Congo, but that depends I suppose on what time of year. All fine otherwise. There is the option of a three hour ferry from Soyo north Angola to Cabinda, thus avoiding DRC transit. Check out my website Kilkenny to Cape Town.

Hi Hugh, I'm in Khartoum now. I planned to cross through Sudan 2 months ago but was slowed down by too much fun south of here- now it's time to pay the piper with my sweat! Avoid Sudan April-early September. I've already experienced 45C+ temps here. North to Dongola 50C+ temps are waiting. I just met a group who came south and they were beaten up badly by the heat. Obviously this should come as no surprise- summer is arriving in the Sahara. The biggest problem is carrying enough water. If you can team up with a 4X4 they can help by carrying some water and providing shade should you break down or have a puncture. Enjoy the ride. H.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
