Smile All welcome - Lilongwe, Malawi

I am currently in the final few weeks of a ride from the UK to India (Yamaha XT600 Tenere). The four month journey has been absolutely incredible and i can't believe it's nearly over.

During my trip I have experienced some of the most amazing hospitality and I want to repay the favour and open my home to the hubb community. So if anyone needs somewhere to stay in Lilongwe then get in touch.

My house is best described as 'humble' but I will endevour to find you a bed to sleep on, a warm shower, a place to clean your clothes and somewhere safe to park your bike. (I can also point you in the direction of a reliable mechanic and show you around Lilongwe).

:confused1: The house is in Area 1 (Falls) very close to Community Stadium in Lilongwe. It's about a 30min walk from Shoprite (in Old town). (Ask for directions to Community Stadium and give me a call)

I run a small charity called 'Building Futures in Malawi' (www.buildingfuturesinmalawi.co.uk). So if anyone is interested in taking a few weeks break from their travels to teach, coach sport, paint classrooms, give bike repair classes etc etc then I can help point you in the right direction.

I do have an ulteria motive....I'm planning to ride my XT600 Tenere back home to England in April so i am particularly interested in people that have come the other way (i need advise on a possible route).

Contact me, Tom, via email tabowden@hotmail.com or phone (00265) (0)9 664811
or Kat (00265) (0)8 379586 - ask for Tom.
or Karen (00265) (0)8 551291 - ask for Tom.
(If you're really struggling to find me go to Silver Strikers Stadium at 2pm and ask people there!)

Try and give me a couple of days warning if you can (don't worry if not - i understand!). At the very least I can point you in the direction of a good campsite or hotel.

I am in Lilongwe from the 15th of January - don't try sooner, i won't be there!

Ride safe

Tom

Hi Tom,

Sounds like a great offer. Sascha and I are planning to pass through Malawi within the next few months, not too sure of an exact date.. We've been looking for voluntary work and really want to take out time from our trip to help out. Anything from a couple of days to a couple of months would be welcome. Just let us know know how much notice to give you and what you're looking for.

Cheers

Richard

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
