any recommendations regarding route to take

Hi there,
we drove from joburg (where i lived) to nairobi (where my brother is still living) on our motorbikes last year june, now we want to continue from nairobi to cairo.

any recommendations regarding route to take,
places to stay and
places to get gasoline?

is it currently save to drive through all parts of sudan and egypt?

by the way we did not have a carnet de passage last year, no problems experienced only at kenian border, but that was solved, it just took some waiting time and patience. Reading the other post, I think we will need to get one for egypt.

Not all Sudan is safe. Avoid Western Sudan unless you opt for military escort. I also wouldn't go near the borders with South Sudan. The rest of Sudan is safe.
As for Egypt I don't know much about, but Sinai is a terror hot spot.

Hi,

We drove from Belgium to South Africa.

Have a look on our website for our stories and we also have a travellerspage on the website with some usefull information. Home (left corner you can change the language). Or follow us on facebook! http://www.facebook.com/waarisworteltje Feel free to contact us if you have any more questions.

And as you say only Egypt is going to be a problem for the carnet.

Oh also don't drive through South Sudan and you should be fine

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
