Bringing spare tires
Next week I,ll start my journey from Tangier to CT on my BMW F650 GS Dakar. The route will mainly be down the west coast with a few exemptions due to some problem-areas as SL, Liberia, Ivory Coast and Nigeria. I understand the possibilites of getting a pair of decent 17" tires are rater slim. It would be helpful to hear how others have solved the need for replacing worn-out tires enroute, and how many tires they brougth with them originally.

Hi,
We left from Gibralta with brand new MT21's. Changed the rears (17inch) in Togo at the KTM dealer in Lome (Toni-Togo). I was approached by another dealer in cameroon who said he had tyres for big bikes in Doala but this is not verified.
We then changed our front tyres in Namibia.
Hope this helps!

hi,
no need to carry them, but we did, because we did not know.
yes, best place is Toni Togo, easy to find in Lome.
In Douala I saw some Bridgestones at the Yamaha dealer.
In Libreville you could try Wild Rider, Alex is the best mc mechanic in that part of Africa.
maybe you can find some used ones in Bamako.
enjoy

I met a rider in Bamako who managed to buy a new tyre there - MT21 or T63 I think. No idea where, but the point is one was available.
I've also heard you can buy new tyres in Dakar.
I tried very hard to find new tyres in The Gambia and Conakry but could only find well-worn used ones.
