Hi
I've found vehicles to be quite expensive in SA - even secondhand. Also vehicles are only MOT'd when you sell them - therefore you could get stuck with a real death trap if you buy via the internet.

SA registered vehicles can go anywhere - you just buy TIP's at borders and I think you can get all the way up to Kenya before you really need one.

thanks for your answer it will be me useful
the prices of the v8 Land that I have seen are
more lower part of the italy and you also remove the transport
the only unknown could be convenient
it is the state of the car
do you live to Joburg?
on autotrader there are good occasions?
The carnet in south africa is easier than to have that in europe?

If you spend some time looking around yourself you can find some bargains in SA. Its better to buy from inland areas as Cape Town cars rust from the sea air and often get patched up just to look good. Look at www.capeads.co.za, this is a Cape Town based classified, but it will also give you an idea of what to expect.

Carnets in SA are cheap and easy, but only possible to SA residents. You cant get into Kenya without one and not into Egypt at all. Believe me Ive just tried!

Yes we are currently in Jo'burg. Jim obviously has the experience you need re: Carnet du Passage. Try subscribing to the WWW.OVERLAND.CO.ZA forum for advice re: purchasing a Landy in Jo'burg / Gauteng area.

Go well, enzo.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
