hey that is cool...simple things for simple minds my wife is saying over my shoulder. Boy has she got her priorities wrong.
JT we live in Maadi (near Residence Hotel). Drink at Maadi House or occasionally the ACE club. Will get to BCA eventually. We're away for the summer too, back mid-July. Got the car but not the bike yet - so bloody complicated getting this stuff done. Got the green light for a motorstrada so that's my plan.
A long drive to pick up jerries - as good a reason as any. If you'd like an extra in the motorcade count me in - I need to get some petrol-stink in the jeep.
cheers Brett

Is it more beautiful than the Egyptian sea shore (on the other side of the border, not on Aqaba gulf), or almost the same?

Dive camp? Wondered what you were doing all the way down there Lahami. Long ride/drive, s and diving. Sounds like a genius plan. After the summer period might be the go.
cheers, Brett

Port Safaga
Hey Lahami
thanks for the offer ... and it`s quite possible
So, Port Safaga would be the place to look for a boat and it might be possible to do the paperwork (CdP, registration, traffic police, etc.) legally, because it`s an exit port ,right
@roro
you really think the road will be open .... I doubt it
I worked as an PADI OWSI in Hurghada for a year some 20 years ago and I remember the slow development back then ....
anyway, still some time untill we hit Egypt with the bikes and hopefully everything works in our favour .... Inshallah

I know this thread is a few years old...but I was wondering what the OP ended up doing. I'm thinking of taking my bike from Cairo to Nairobi in 9 days and ship the bike back to Cairo by air freight. Now that the road between Egypt and Sudan is open I think it should be possible.
I know that the pace is not ideal. I would love to take more time off and do that trip at a much more enjoyable pace, however, I'm stuck with the time I have. Here's what I have planned so far:
Day 1. Cairo - Aswan (850km)
Day 2. Aswan - Dongola (800km est.)
Day 3. Dongola - Khartoum (638km)
Day 4. Khartoum - Gondar (763km)
Day 5. REST
Day 6. Gondar - Addis Ababa (732km)
Day 7. Addis - Moyale (773km)
Day 8. Moyale - Isiolo (505km)
Day 9. Isiolo - Nairobi (275km)
What does everyone think?

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
