Can we sell bikes in CapeTown?
Just wondering about the logistics/ costs / legalities of selling bikes which we will purchase in the UK on our arrrival in Cape Town? Also, what about registration for UK purchased bikes if we are Australian citizens? We need to be able to get rid of the bikes at the end as quickly as possible so we can fly home.

Hi,
if you come past Durban I can help sorting your papers out and clear the bikes through customs that you can sell the bikes afterwards in Cape Town.
what bikes are you on ? Are you on an carnet ?
regards
Thomas

Why not try to arrange selling them to Brits who want to ride them back?
The carnet might need some sorting, the buyer would need to bring one out with them and a registration document in their name, but it might be the easiest solution.

Well after reading so so many posts and travel stories we were going to go without the carnet and get lassaiz passers along the way i think.... not 100 per cent sure yet. not due to the cost of the actual carnet, but the indemnity etc... we wouldnt be going through Durban unfortuantely and yes it would be great to be able to sell them to Brits who maybe wnat to fly into cape town and ride them back - that would be perfect! Anybody ???? :-)
That is what we will be doing with the 4x4 my friend will be using until accra. If we do have a carnet for the bikes, I have read on here that they can be transferred.
Otherwise, if we sell them I guess we just have to pay the local taxes? But that might be the same kind of cost as shipping, and easier?
