Cape to Cairo leaving in 3 weeks....
Hello all,
Im leaving Cape town for Cairo along the East Coast in 3 weeks time on an '85 Tenere, plan to take about 5 months for the trip.
Would be nice to know who else might be in the area around this time?
See you on the road
Jim

Hi Jim,
I was planning to head to Kazakhstan but have just been shafted for 2 visas. It's tough being British at the moment. But the upshot is that unless an appeal works I might be turning right at Syria and cruising down as far as Uganda on a 2000 XT600E.
Don't know quite how I would obtain a Sudanese visa though. If government approval is required the British embassies do not have the best reputation for helping.
Anyway I should be in Istanbul in a few days time with some days to kill and try and decide.
Post back and maybe we can hook up.
Cheers George

Melancholy,
If you do require a Sudanese visa, you will have no problem getting it in Cairo.
Just search the subject on this website and you will find plenty of info about the process.

if you're british or american you are likely to have HUGE problems getting a sudanese visa anywhere, including cairo! indeed do a search on the hubb.

just came up through sudan( got visa in addis in 6 days, after being thrown out a few times) you`ll probably have to get a leeter of recomendation from the brit embassy for 40 quid and then you should be ok.we`re now about to head up though jordan etc.. so see you on the way. or maybe in istanbul in a couple of days if i cant find a new tyre soon. dont suppose youve noticed a ktm shop there have you?

6 days? what did you do to upset them? took me 3 incl the letter of intro (1 hour and 60 USD). same for the yanks, but they couldn't get letters of intro and had to pay 150USD instead of 60USD.
I gather, but don't actually KNOW, that the process is the same in Egypt: get a letter of intro from the Brit Consular section and then go to the Sudanese embassy. easy peasy lemon squeasy. easier than crossing the road in Cairo, anyway!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
