Crossing into Senegal from Mauritania at Diama
Hi All,
Seen quite a few posts on here about people travelling down to Rosso to then get onto the piste to the Diama border with Senegal.
We crossed a couple of days ago having had some dubious directions from one of the, many, police stops on the way down to take a right hand turn off the main road for a more direct route, at Lat 16°47'24.06"N, Lon 16° 5'56.10"W. Took a leap of faith but the road heads south west in a straight line for 20 or so kilometres on rough road, until Lat 16°34'31.32"N, Lon 16°15'37.04"W, where it took a diversion around a building development. There was sandy section looping around into Ker Mancene, entering from the north east, some signposts, at Lat 16°33'16.33"N, Lon 16°14'12.09"W, from here you just head south for a couple of km until you hit the river from Rosso, turn right and it´s another 25 km until the border.
Looks like they´re building a main road to the border of the N2, it´d be pretty easy on a bike, bit rough in a car but we just managed it a a 20 year old Jag Sovereign and it seems to have survived.
Let me know if you want more details or the gpx track for it.
Hope this is useful.
Cheers
