Crossing Northern C. D'Ivoire
Has anyone crossed from Guinea into Ghana recently through the north of C D'Ivoire?
Can you provide any details regarding permits, visas (where to get), guides, road-blocks etc.
Thanks

Haven't done it myself, but a few pointers:
1. Crossing near Man - be careful, the area is still a little 'unstable' but people are managing to travel through there.
2. Visa - get a VTE - possibly in Guinea from the Togolese Embassy

Yes, but Man is the 'main' road in .. hence I mentioned it ..
All the other roads will be 'murderous' in terms of their state knowing Guinean roads so do allow time, food & water ..
Korhogo is apparently worth a visit .. I'd love to hear where you went when you go through!
Bonne chance (but don't speak French to any officials!)

I think I will lookd for a crossing further north than Man; I am planning on taking mostly dirt tracks anyway.
Why did you say don't speak French to the officicals? Did the French suppotr the government during the war then, or is there general post-collonial resentment in that area?
Tens, tiens...

I don't speak French initially to any type of officialdom in Francophone countries; I find it makes things easier for me, I don't 'understand' when they want bribes etc ..
The only time I do speak French is when I'm getting really pissed off with it all or if they are being super nice and there's no threat of bribes (I've paid up once in all my W.African travels)

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
