DRC Goma border tips for 4wd Vehicle
We're planning to drive our Uganda-registered, privately-owned Rav4 to DRC crossing from Gisenyi into Goma.
I can't find border confirmed requirements online and wanted advice from anyone who may have done that route recently by car.
- Do they insist on an international driving permit for the driver of the vehicle?
- I understand from the Virunga park authorities that you pay $15 Carte d'Entrée and $25 road toll if you have the COMESA (the Common Market for East African States - which includes DRC). Does anyone know what we pay if we don't have COMESA insurance (i.e. if we just have our regular Uganda insurance and temporary Rwanda insurance)
Any insights and advice appreciated - we have the option of overnighting and/or leaving the car in Gisenyi in Rwanda and crossing by foot. We're only in DRC for 2 days for a volcano trek close to Goma town, so it's not imperative to bring our car in. But it would be cool to bring it if poss.
Thanks!
