Road from just south of Archer's post up to the border is very bad. Not difficult to drive, just really large corregations which don't do a great deal for your suspension. Its doable in a day but most people take two days. The road on the Ethiopian side up to Addis Ababa is excellent for an African road. Its good tarmac and you can fairly easily do the border at Moyale to Addis Ababa in a day. Other thing that may affect your timings are because of the bandit threat through northern Kenya, the Police run convoys. They aren't that great for protection because they become very strung out but the police can make you wait and go in one. The bandit threat is real but not that many incidents. Loads of overland travellers drive through there with no problem.
